Precise Cutting at the Afsluitdijk Project in the Netherlands
Efficiently removing sheet piles underwater
At the Afsluitdijk in the Netherlands, work is progressing on a large-scale water safety project. In this project, the PVL Underwater Cutting Torch enables the precise cutting and removal of existing sheet piles underwater at a depth of 12 meters.
These sheet piles were originally installed to facilitate the construction of new discharge sluices. Once the sluices are completed, the sheet piles must be removed underwater, a task being carried out with the cutting torch of PVL.
By using the underwater cutting torch to remove the sheet piles, the project can proceed to its ultimate goal: constructing new discharge sluices and a pumping station to improve water drainage and strengthen the safety of the Afsluitdijk.
