THE FIRST HYBRID CRUISE TENDER AND LIFEBOAT

First cruise tender with a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system.

FASSMER builds the world’s first cruise tender with a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system. The PLL1099 is a combined tender and lifeboat that is able to carry up to 114 persons in tender operation. In the electric mode, the tender does not produce air pollution and allows a very quiet and smooth operation due to the eliminated engine noise and the reduced vibration, confort for guests onboard is now guaranteed at higher level.

Twin powertrain couples the traditional Diesel engine with Transfluid hybrid HTM700-20W, that also includes the internally designed gearbox for a perfectly integrated system. This configuration obtained the first Type Approval given by DNV-GL to an hybrid system.

The hybrid propulsion allows the following operation modes:

– Diesel driven (lifeboat operation, transit)

– Diesel an electric driven (boost mode, increased speed)

– Electric driven (no engine noise, no air pollution, reduced vibration – tender purpose, shore operation, boarding)

To the above is added the important Regeneration mode, available in both cruising and steady conditions, where the Diesel power is used to rechgarge batteries through the same electric machine working as a powerful generator.

Transfluid’s LiFePo4 battery pack with proprietary DNV-GL Type Approval and NMA Test 1 Extension gives the max safety today available in marine industry energy storage. For a total of almost 40kWh energy stored onboard, the Tender will have a continuous full electric range of 1,5 hours in operationa cruising speed around 6 knots.
